N-Power Payment Crisis Escalates as Court Takes Fresh Action — Beneficiaries Await Justice

N-Power Payment Delay: Court Adjourns Case to May 19, 2026 as Legal Battle Against Federal Government Intensifies

The prolonged delay in the payment of stipends to N-Power beneficiaries has entered a critical phase, as legal proceedings against the Federal Government continue to unfold in court.

This development follows increasing frustration among thousands of beneficiaries across Nigeria who have gone months without receiving their entitled payments under the N-Power social intervention programme.

According to popular activist and public commentator, Dan Bello, the legal action initiated on behalf of affected beneficiaries is steadily progressing. The case aims to compel the government and relevant authorities to fulfill their financial obligations and ensure accountability in the management of the scheme.

At the most recent court session held earlier today, proceedings took a notable turn. Out of all the defendants listed in the case, only the 3rd defendant was present in court. The absence of the 1st, 2nd, and 4th defendants raised concerns about their level of commitment to the legal process.

Speaking during the session, the plaintiffs’ counsel, Barrister Abba Hikima, informed the court that the 1st and 4th defendants had attended a previous hearing before the case was adjourned. He further clarified that official hearing notices had already been duly served to the 2nd and 3rd defendants in accordance with legal procedures.

Despite the absence of multiple defendants, the court maintained its stance on ensuring that justice is not delayed. The presiding judge confirmed that the matter had been properly mentioned and ruled that proceedings would not be stalled due to non-appearance.

Consequently, the court adjourned the case to May 19, 2026, for continuation of hearing, signaling that the case is moving forward regardless of delays or absence from some parties involved.

In addition, the court issued a directive that fresh hearing notices must be re-served to the 1st, 2nd, and 4th defendants to ensure full compliance with due process and to provide them another opportunity to appear before the court.

This case has now become a focal point in the broader discussion around transparency, accountability, and efficiency in Nigeria’s social intervention programmes. Many observers believe that the outcome of this legal battle could set a significant precedent for how similar issues are handled in the future.

For the beneficiaries, however, the situation remains urgent and deeply personal. Many rely heavily on these stipends for survival, and the continued delay has placed financial strain on individuals and families across the country.

As the next hearing date approaches, attention will remain fixed on both the government’s response and the judiciary’s handling of the matter. Stakeholders, analysts, and citizens alike are watching closely, as the final outcome could reshape trust in public welfare initiatives.
